Old School Junkie Spotlight: Alisa Jones

By: Old School Tribune

Alisa Jones A.K.A. Lisa B

Urban Archives co-founder, Alisa Jones, is a pure Old School Hip Hop Head.  Lisa  brings a female perspective of Old School urban culture to Old School Tribune and Urban Archives; ensuring that we also Renew, Preserve and Celebrate the ladies' contributions to Hip Hop, R&B, and urban culture.

While the men at Urban Archives tend to mainly focus on the lyricism of Old School Hip Hop, Lisa reminds us that the Old School also kept the party rockin'.  Lisa believes that the love for the music has been lost due to the substantial amount of money that is now generated from the exploitation of our culture.

A natural born event planner, Lisa B has been hosting the ill events for years.  Lisa also notes that she has never been one of  "those chicks too cute to dance."  When our Old School events roll through your city, you are sure to see Lisa B doing her thing on the floor from the first "Hey" to the last "Ho."

Old School Junkie(s) Profile:

  • Name:   Alisa Jones

  • Nickname:  Lisa B

  • First Hip Hop Song that You Recall Hearing:  "Rappper's Delight."  I recorded the song during the Saturday night mix, and wrote down the words until I remembered them.  I still know all of the lyrics.

  • Favorite Hip Hop Artist(s):  Heavy D and Tupac

  • Favorite Female MC:  MC Lyte

  • First Hip Hop Tape Bought With Your Own Money:  Salt N Pepa's Hot, Cool, & Vicious.

  • Most Upset for Losing What Tape:  BDP's Criminal Minded

  • Favorite R&B Artist or Group:  Earth, Wind, & Fire

  • Most Underrated Artist:  Donnell Jones (He's New School, but has an Old School soul)

  • Favorite Urban Movie:  Mahogany

  • Favorite TV Show:  Martin

  • Favorite Comedian:    Richard Pryor

  • What Happened to Hip Hop?:   It became too serious and no longer fun when the messages all started to become violent.

  • Favorite Hood Snack and/ or Candy:  pineapple Now & Laters, Suzy Q (fresh only), Pina Colada soda, and Doritos.  My mother used to leave my little brother and me a dollar each before she left for work.  I could buy all of this with that dollar and some change.

  • Craziest Old School Style Rocked:    The whole neon/ fluorescent fad and the popcorn curl.

  • Most Cherished Gear That You Rocked:  My MCM suits with the matching purses.  I bought them myself on lay-away.

  • Part of Hip Hop You Most Wish Was Passed on to the New School:  Just the pure essence of Hip Hop.  Back then, it was fun.  I wish that they appreciated Hip Hop more.

  • Most Memorable Time that  Your Brother/ Sister Snitched on You:  Too many to single out one.  My little brother had no sibling loyalty.  It's a wonder how we managed to become so close, and even go into business together.

  • Suede Pumas or Shell-toe Adidas:   Suede Pumas

  • Al B. Sure or Keith Sweat:   Keith Sweat

  • Favorite Dance: The Burger Bounce.  I still do it.  If you don't know what it is, check me out when we roll through your city.

  • First Concert Attended: Cameo.  My friend Lisa and I wore our Leather Member's Only jackets that night.

  • Chic or Jordache Jeans:  Jordache, straight up and down.

  • First Rapper, Athlete, or Celebrity that tried to mack:   DMC
